My research focus is on critical information literacy and culturally sustaining pedagogy---the inclusion of other forms of knowledge in archival instruction and materials. As a Special Collections instruction librarian, I engage with community members, and undergraduate and graduate students to teach them that there is always a certain amount of subaltern knowledge contained in official cultural heritage materials. My goal is to bring my students into an awareness that they are historical subjects and creators of history. In my rare book collection management role, I nourish the collection by expanding the notion of what a rare book can be.
