Daniel Minter
My work is centered around making images and objects to represent ideas of our existence. I use painting, carving and relief printmaking as the primary media. There are themes of personal remembrance, natural energies, lore and spirituality, all wrapped in the materials of everyday life.
Lately I have been using the images and ideas of trees, roots, branches and leaves to think about place and displacement, death and growth, tempo and longevity. Can an uprooted people re-root themselves in hostile depleted topsoil? The block prints I carve are my notations to myself that we have done this countless times.
