My choice of media is an intentional and deliberate decision. The simplicity of materials, clean lines, stark shapes, tedious, and repetitive action of cutting, carving, or sewing are a meditation and a prayer. I seek to whittle the essence of the image down to intimate, poetic observations about humanity. My work as an artist, educator, and curator is intended to encourage socially-minded introspection and empathy. It is also important to me to use media that is accessible to people from a wide range of socio-economic situations. I want them to be able to gather the materials and grasp the processes if my work inspires them to create a piece of their own.
